Hekiunkan Dojo UK
Suio-ryu Iai Kenpo is one of the classical martial traditions of Japan. Founded in the early 17th century by Mima Yoichizaemon Kagenobu (1577-1665) the tradition has continued to the present day where it is taught under the auspices of the 15th Generation Soke (headmaster), Katsuse Yoshimitsu Kagehiro, based at the Hekiunkan Dojo in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
A comprehensive martial system its curriculum includes techniques of iaijutsu (sword drawing), kenpo (swordsmanship), kogusoku (grappling), wakizashi (short sword), naginata (glaive) and jo (staff) among others. In addition, Katsuse Soke also serves as the 12th Generation Soke of the Masaki-ryu Fukuhara Ha, a system of kusarigama (sickle and chain) taught in conjunction with the Suio-ryu.
Instruction at the Hekiunkan Dojo in the UK is given by Antony Cundy. Antony lived for 13 years in Japan, where he was a direct student of Katsuse Soke. He is a member of the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai and has demonstrated for the tradition at numerous classical martial arts events. He is a senior instructor of the tradition, holding the Dai Mokuroku license, the 6th of 7 levels of recognition, and has full authority to teach all arts in the tradition's curriculum.
